Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a Melrose Park resident to participate?

No, we welcome all participants from any location, not just Melrose Park.

It is difficult for me to travel, am I still able to be interviewed?

Yes, we are able to come to your location to conduct the interview. All of our equipment is easy to transport so if you are unable to come visit us, we will come visit you as long are you are located in the Chicagoland area.

What happens after the interview?

After the interview, we will transcribe the entire interview and send you a copy of the transcription for correction. Once everything is corrected and approved by you, we will send a copy to the Library of Congress where it will be added to their permanent collection and their website within approximately 8 months. We will also add your interview to our website which should be viewable within 1 month. Finally, we will send you a copy of your interview to keep or share with family and friends.

What are the browser and system requirements for listening to the interviews?

Ensure you have the following software installed. If you do not have these components, download and install them. We have provided links to the downloads as a convenience.

I can't hear the audio files, what should I do?

If you have the correct software, make sure that the volume is turned up on the media player. If there is still a problem, open the Volume Controls (Start ->Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Advanced) Make sure that the volume is turned up under 'Wave'.
